We started work on April 24, 2009 at 11.30am. The school assigned two carpenters, Ah Choy and Ah Wah, to look into the dismantling and shifting of the cabinets.
In view of the fragility of the items, extra precautions were taken to ensure the joints of the cabinets were not loosen and the glass not broken. It was a tedious job to put aside other items in the store rooms to make way for the removal and shifting of the cabinets.
Look at Picture One. The space in the room was crammed with so many items. We needed to be very careful as a small mistake would risk the antique cabinets losing its authenticity.
Another great obstacle was to shift the cabinet all the way to the gallery. They had to go through steep steps and sharp corners.
You can see that in pictures 2 and 3.
Now inside the gallery. Look at the trophies and shields. They are now "protected". We are going through the artefacts one by one meticulously. These are items held in high esteem before by our past Michaelian champions. They could be rugby or football players, water polo or even a cycling event. It's time these are documented and given a mention.
Next, the restoration work carried out.
